ABOUT  DESIGNER

Branimir Kostrić, born in 1943 in Croatia discovered a charm of wood early in his life. As a student of School of applied arts in Zagreb, he was introduced to basic woodworking techniques as a practical part of a curriculum. Working in school’s workshop, he began to deeply appreciate the art of chairmaking. He moved to Slovenia to study architecture at Faculty of architecture at University of Ljubljana. He graduated under mentorship of prof. Niko Kralj, an icon of Slovenian industrial design and author of a legendary “Rex” chair. After graduation he proceeded coworking with Niko Kralj for the following 11 years at Industrial design institute, formed at Faculty of architecture, designing furniture and other industrial products. As a scholarship holder of the Finnish government he was living in Helsinki where he grew his fascination of modern scandinavian design. He has left the Faculty to run a private architecture studio, designing buildings and interiors mainly for private customers. His passion to this day remained the chair design. With over 45 years of experience in architecture and furniture design his extensive knowledge and expertise in wood processing is indisputable. He handcrafts all of his furniture design prototypes in his own workshop located in the outskirts of Ljubljana.
